Buying Process

Seven Steps from Quote to Delivery

Purchasing used and reconditioned IBCs should be just as straightforward as ordering new ones. Here's exactly how the process works from first contact to final delivery.

01

Submit Your Requirements

Contact us by phone, email, or through the quote form on this page. Let us know the quantity you need, your preferred grade (A, B, C, or Reconditioned), the IBC size (275-gallon or 330-gallon), and your intended use. The more detail you provide, the faster we can match you with the right inventory.

02

Receive Your Custom Quote

Within 24 hours — often the same business day — our team will send you a detailed quote. The quote includes per-unit pricing, applicable volume discounts, delivery costs (if any), and estimated availability. We'll also flag any grade or size substitutions if your first choice isn't in stock.

03

Review & Approve

Review your quote and ask any questions. We're happy to provide photos of available units, share inspection details, or arrange a visit to our facility so you can see the containers in person before purchasing. Once you approve, we lock in your order and reserve inventory.

04

Payment Processing

We accept payment via company check, ACH bank transfer, wire transfer, and all major credit cards. Net-30 terms are available for established business accounts. Once payment is confirmed (or credit is approved), your IBCs move to the preparation queue.

05

Preparation & Quality Check

Each IBC in your order is individually inspected one final time before dispatch. We verify valve function, gasket integrity, cage condition, and pallet soundness. For reconditioned units, we confirm the cleaning certificate matches the container. Every unit is photographed and the images are stored in your order file.

06

Pickup or Delivery

Choose between customer pickup at our San Francisco facility (no appointment needed during business hours) or scheduled Bay Area delivery. Deliveries are made with liftgate-equipped trucks — no dock required at your end. We'll confirm a delivery window and provide a tracking link so you know exactly when to expect your containers.

07

Post-Sale Support

Our relationship doesn't end at delivery. If you discover an issue with any container within 30 days, we'll replace it at no charge. We also provide ongoing technical support — whether you need advice on IBC storage best practices, compatibility questions for specific chemicals, or guidance on cleaning and reuse cycles.

Quality Tiers

Quality Grading Explained

Every IBC in our facility is inspected and assigned a grade based on a standardized rubric. Understanding these grades helps you choose the right container for your application without overpaying.

Grade A — Like New

Single-use IBCs with minimal cosmetic wear. Clean interior, fully functional valve and cage. Ideal for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications.

These containers have typically been used once for a clean, non-staining product such as water, glycerin, or food-grade syrups. The HDPE bottle shows no discoloration or odor. Cage tubes are straight, galvanized coating is intact, and the pallet is sound. Grade A totes pass visual inspection with no more than minor label residue on the exterior. They're the closest thing to a new IBC without the new-IBC price tag.

Grade B — Standard

Multi-use containers in solid working condition. May show exterior scuffing or minor label residue. Popular for industrial chemicals, soaps, and agricultural liquids.

Grade B IBCs have seen two to four use cycles. You'll find moderate scuffing on the cage, possible minor dents on non-structural tubes, and light staining or label ghosting on the HDPE bottle. Structurally, these containers are fully sound — valves operate correctly, gaskets seal properly, and pallets support rated loads. Grade B is our most popular tier for customers who prioritize function and value over aesthetics.

Grade C — Economy

Functional IBCs with visible wear. Best suited for non-critical storage, rainwater collection, irrigation, and on-site fluid management where appearance is secondary.

Economy-grade totes show clear signs of extended use: heavier scuffing, possible minor warping of the HDPE bottle, cage cosmetic damage, and residual staining. However, every Grade C IBC we sell has been verified for structural integrity — no cracks that would cause leaks, no cage damage that compromises stacking, and functional valve assemblies. These are ideal for non-food applications like rainwater harvesting, irrigation mixing, and on-site waste fluid collection.

Reconditioned

Professionally triple-washed, pressure-tested, and fitted with new gaskets, valves, and caps. Meets FDA and UN/DOT standards for hazmat transport.

Our reconditioned IBCs go through our full six-step cleaning and reconditioning process. The HDPE bottle is triple-washed and sanitized. All wearable components — butterfly valve, dust cap, lid gasket, and breather vent — are replaced with new OEM-specification parts. The container is pressure-tested at 1.5x rated working pressure. Each unit ships with a dated inspection certificate documenting the cleaning method, replacement parts, and test results. Reconditioned totes are certified for food-contact, pharmaceutical, and UN/DOT hazmat transport applications.

Inventory

Available Container Types

We maintain a rotating inventory of several hundred IBCs at our San Francisco facility. Below are the container types we stock regularly. Specialty or unusual configurations can be sourced on request.

275-Gallon Composite IBC (Standard)

The industry workhorse. HDPE bottle inside a galvanized steel cage on a 48" x 40" wood or plastic pallet. Rated for up to 2,200 lbs gross weight. Available in all grades. Most commonly used for water, beverages, soaps, detergents, agricultural chemicals, and industrial fluids.

330-Gallon Composite IBC (Large)

Same construction as the 275-gallon but with a taller bottle providing 20% more capacity. Ideal when you need maximum volume per container footprint. Popular with customers storing or transporting high-volume, lower-density liquids.

Reconditioned Food-Grade IBCs

Triple-washed and sanitized to meet FDA 21 CFR requirements. New valves, gaskets, and caps installed. Shipped with full cleaning documentation. Suitable for food ingredients, beverages, potable water, food-safe cleaning solutions, and cosmetic ingredients.

UN/DOT Certified IBCs

Reconditioned containers that have been re-certified per 49 CFR 178.801 retest standards for the transport of hazardous materials. Required for shipping flammable, corrosive, toxic, or environmentally hazardous liquids via road, rail, or sea.

Stainless Steel IBCs

304 or 316L stainless steel construction for high-purity or high-temperature applications. Sourced on request — contact us with your specifications and volume needs. Common in pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and high-value food ingredient operations.

Rebottled IBCs

Brand-new HDPE bottle installed in a used steel cage on a refurbished pallet. This option gives you a virgin-plastic interior at a significantly lower price than a fully new IBC. Excellent for applications where interior cleanliness is critical but cage cosmetics are not.

Pricing

Bulk Pricing Tiers

Our standard 275-gallon used IBC totes start at a fraction of the new-unit price. Bulk orders unlock tiered discounts that scale with your volume. The table below shows the discount structure — these percentages apply across all grades.

Returns

Return & Replacement Policy

We stand behind every container we sell. If an IBC does not match the grade description provided at the time of sale, or if a defect is discovered within 30 days of delivery, we will replace it at no cost — including transport.

To initiate a return or replacement, contact our team with your order number and a description (or photos) of the issue. We aim to resolve all claims within 48 hours, usually with a replacement container dispatched on the next available delivery run.

Please note that cosmetic variations are inherent to used containers and are reflected in the grade description. Grade B and C totes, by definition, will show signs of prior use. Returns for cosmetic reasons on these grades are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Reconditioned and Grade A containers carry our strongest guarantee: full performance parity with new IBCs. If they don't deliver, we make it right — no questions asked.

New Customers

First-Time Buyer Guide

Never purchased a used or reconditioned IBC before? Here's what you need to know to make a confident first purchase.

  • Know your application — food-grade products require Reconditioned or Grade A IBCs with cleaning certificates. Industrial non-food use opens up Grade B and C options at lower prices.
  • Check chemical compatibility — HDPE is compatible with most water-based and mild chemical products. For aggressive solvents, strong acids, or oxidizers, ask us about compatibility or consider stainless steel totes.
  • Measure your space — a standard 275-gallon IBC on a pallet is approximately 48" W x 40" D x 46" H. A 330-gallon model is about 6 inches taller. Ensure your storage area, doorways, and any racking can accommodate these dimensions.
  • Understand stacking limits — composite IBCs are rated for two-high stacking when full (bottom container supports the weight of one filled container above it). Never exceed this without engineering review.
  • Start with a sample — if you're unsure which grade suits your needs, order a single unit to test. There's no minimum order for customer pickup.

Repeat Orders

Reorder Program

Many of our customers need IBCs on a recurring basis — monthly, quarterly, or seasonally. Our Reorder Program simplifies repeat purchasing with several benefits designed for regular buyers.

  • Locked-in pricing — agree to a quarterly or annual volume commitment and we'll fix your per-unit price for the duration. No surprises from market fluctuations.
  • Priority inventory reservation — we set aside stock for your upcoming orders so you're never waiting for availability during peak season.
  • Simplified reordering — one email or phone call references your account profile and your standard order ships without re-quoting. Net-30 billing runs automatically.
  • Swap program — combine your reorder with our Sell service. When we deliver fresh IBCs, our crew picks up your empties for buyback credit or recycling. One truck, two transactions, zero hassle.

Seasonal Offers

Seasonal Deals & Clearance

Throughout the year, we run seasonal promotions to help move high-volume inventory and pass savings on to our customers. These deals typically coincide with periods of peak supply — when large manufacturers rotate their IBC fleets and we receive bulk lots of quality used containers.

Spring Cleanout (March-April): Discounted Grade B and C inventory as agricultural and landscaping businesses stock up for the growing season. Ideal for irrigation, fertilizer mixing, and rainwater storage.

Summer Surplus (July-August): Large lots of Grade A and Reconditioned totes become available as beverage companies finish seasonal production runs. Best selection of food-grade containers at reduced prices.

Year-End Clearance (November-December): We clear remaining inventory before our annual facility maintenance shutdown. All grades discounted, with the deepest cuts on economy totes. First come, first served.

Why Buy Used

Save Money & the Planet

Manufacturing a single new IBC requires approximately 130 pounds of virgin HDPE resin and produces over 215 lbs of CO2. Purchasing a used or reconditioned tote eliminates up to 92% of that carbon footprint while delivering the same storage performance.

Reconditioned IBCs are cleaned, tested, and fitted with new parts to meet the same specifications as new containers — at a significantly lower price point. For most applications, there is no functional difference between a properly reconditioned IBC and a brand-new one.

By choosing used, you also support the circular economy in the Bay Area. Every IBC that gets a second (or third) life reduces demand for new manufacturing, conserves water, and keeps functional containers out of the waste stream.
